Situated within the Railway Terraces Conservation Area in Barnet, our clients, who had lived in the property for some years, were keen to have their home refurbished without removing its history and character.
To this end our design combined contemporary details and materials with renovated and refurbished existing features.
An existing quarry tile floor was retained and the original box stair was carefully stabilised in combination with a new roof lantern to provide daylight into the stair well. On the first floor the existing timber boards were relaid. Timber double glazed doors and windows detailed to match the original styles replaced unsympathetic upvc units.
Joinery was designed to compliment the period of the house, including a new kitchen; library shelving on the ground floor and a bespoke freestanding wardrobe and display shelving were built in the master bedroom, the latter intended to display our clients extensive collection of vintage Penguin paperbacks.
Externally the yard was laid with reclaimed Yorkstone flags and a new reclaimed brickwork wall created a private courtyard for our clients use.
