Pollyanna has developed an enviable reputation as a high end fashion retailer, selling contemporary clothing by European and Japanese fashion designers including Chanel and Issey Miyake. As part of the continuing development of the business we were invited to produce design proposals for a suite of rooms to be used by staff and guests. Situated at the rear of a listed building, the proposal adopted a garrett like character with a new light weight timber clad volume accommodating a bed and shower room together with a private terrace. Internally existing attic spaces and stock rooms would be altered to create a private viewing room and supporting facilities. Attached to the rear a new stair tower would connect the new accommodation to the street, allowing visitors to access the new rooms outside trading hours. Vertical cedar cladding reduces the visual impact of the new project and also makes reference to the functional structures seen on adjacent buildings.
